Mad busy week!

This has been another busy week, when I didn’t expect it one.
Doctor Who on Saturday gave my blog a huge boost in hits, resetting my best day stats, two days in a row. It’s now, Sunday October 11th with 320 people visiting that day.
Because of that, I adjusted the Post to make it a bit better for the Doctor Who fans coming in, adding some things specific to the episode “Before The Flood“. Hopefully as that episode is rerun I’ll see similar surges in hits to the page, and maybe a few Whoovians will take a chance on a free ebook copy of An0ma1y and get hooked.
Then Tuesday was my fourteen year wedding anniversary, and me and the Mrs spent the day complaining at how much the city had changed since we started dating eighteen years ago. Which was nice.
I’ve also been working on some tweaks to T13, altering the way Pacts work and making some other minor changes to the text in the Sway and Plot Dæmons pages. I’ve also added the Alpha test rules for Færies and Bulmäs characters, so if you want to play those characters you can get a better idea of what’s involved. If you haven’t read my books first, those pages may act as spoilers, so you’ve been warned. Although, who would be playing T13 that hasn’t played it with me as Ref, or read the books is a mystery to me, and bless you are a huge fan of Narrative and Character driven roleplaying games.
In other news I was elected Deputy Chair of my kids’ School’s board of Governors, which is going to cut into my writing time a little, but I hope will be worthwhile in the long run.
So what else have I been up to? Well, I’m planning a book series for kids right now (because my sons want a book of mine they can read) and I decided to work on “Cyberpixies”. It’s intended to be a sort of Cyberpunk meets Harry Potter style kids book series, if you can imagine such a thing. Intended to teach (my) kids some of the basics of computer programming, without them even realising what they are learning.
If all goes well, I should have a sketched outline of the series and a specific Outline for the first volume (and maybe the second) pretty soon. Writing for kids is tricky I’ve been told, so I’m hoping having two kids aged 10 and 8 with reading ages of 16 and 14 (or there-abouts) should help there. I’ve got some interesting 13 year-old characters already sketched out and a good idea of the Cyberpixies too. I have several conflicts worked out and plotted so I should be able to start 1st drafting soon.
I’ve not yet started work on my Cthriller’s (Cthulhu-Thriller) 2nd Draft, but will move on to that once I have Cyberpixies sorted in my head, as by then I should have foxed my brain into forgetting the plot of the Cthiller. I’m still trying to think up a good name for the novel though, even having finished the 1st Draft. The working titles (Cthriller, The Order of Atlantis and The Sextile Conspiracy) don’t really work for me as actual novel titles, although my favourite chapter “Tobias Fenwick and The Elephant of Death” wouldn’t work either as Toby is, at best, a supporting character. The 2nd Draft needs to slim the text and cut some of the direct Cthulhu mythos references, and introduce more ambiguities, as at the moment it’s more Cthulhu than Thriller and this one should be Cthriller not Cthuller, if you see what I mean. I think I might try releasing it on this blog chapter by chapter, at first, and see if I can build some interest.
I’m also still world-building for a YA post-apocalyptic novel series in my monthly T13 games… That’s going well and I have a good idea where the plots are going to go and a wealth of backstory and interesting characters to draw on that keeps growing. Not sure when I’ll start work on that, but probably after I’ve finished the 2nd draft of the Cthriller…
Right better get on.
