One of the things that I love about being Indie published is that I get to produce everything myself. I don’t hand off book cover production to another artist, I fire up photoshop, plug in a graphics tablet and do-it-myself. These are my latest two pieces of cover art, for a couple of short stories that’ll be coming to Kindle as soon as my Editor* has finished with the manuscripts** of my stories....

mymodernmet: The Abyss Table is a stunning coffee table that mimics the depths of the ocean with stacked layers of wood and glass. Made by London-based furniture design company Duffy London, the limited-edition piece comes with the hefty price tag of £5,800 (nearly $10,000). Damn that’s a pretty table, price tags a leetle stiff for me though....

  • Muphry’s Law: the inevitability of typos in pedantic proofreading critiques

mostlysignssomeportents:   Muphry’s Law, as formulated John Bangsund of the Victorian Society of Editors (Victorian as in “from the Australian state of Victoria” not as in “pertaining to 1837-1901, the period concurrent with the rule of Queen Victoria”) pertains to the inevitable petard-hoisting that occurs whenever you mention proofreading or editing....

  • mostlysignssomeportents: How metadata…

mostlysignssomeportents: How metadata compromises you “It’s only metadata,” is the catch-all excuse for mass surveillance – after all, if spies aren’t capturing what your message says why should you care if they’re getting who sent it, what its subject line is, where you and the sender are, and everything you do before and after receiving the message? Privacy International’s “Metadata” demolishes the rationalizations for mass surveillance in four short minutes. It’s a beautiful exploration of a vital subject....
